Together for the climate: How the Alois Müller Group is committed to sustainability
From the CO2-neutral factory to newly created forests | 1,200 trees for regional afforestation
The fact that sustainability is not a trendy topic for the Alois Müller Group is proven by the multiple award-winning Green Factory, the CO2-neutral office and production building at the company’s site in Ungerhausen. Now, just a few kilometers away, a further step in climate protection followed: together with customers, business partners and employees, 1,200 new trees were planted near Ottobeuren.
“We have been committed to sustainable and resource-saving solutions for many years,” points out CEO Andreas Müller. As an entrepreneur, it is close to his heart to focus on sustainable solutions in the field of energy and building technology (heating, ventilation, plumbing, refrigeration, electrical) and to pay attention to climate protection. A good 10 years ago, when the company’s new building was being constructed, he and his employees worked out a concept for making the company climate-neutral. “Our electricity comes from a photovoltaic system on the roof and from a CHP unit with combined heat and power,” says Müller. In addition, he said, part of the vehicle fleet already consists of e-vehicles. “Unfortunately, not all of them yet, but by 2030 we would like to have converted our entire fleet to e-cars.”
To further offset the company’s CO2 emissions, a tree planting campaign has now taken place in the Alois Müller corporate forest. “Everything we consume in terms of electricity and energy, we also want to try to give back. This is really a matter close to my heart. I wish many more entrepreneurs would take part in such actions,” says Andreas Müller. After all, it’s a simple and good way to give something back to the environment and to keep raising awareness of climate protection and sustainable action within the company as well.
Under the guidance and close supervision of Carolin Albrecht from the Forstbetriebsgemeinschaft Memmingen e. V., the 1,200 new trees were planted. “We are very happy to have a reliable partner at our side in the Alois Müller company, for whom sustainability is just as important as it is for us,” says Albrecht, as she talks about the work in the forest as well as how forests are affected by climate change. Numerous studies have shown that nothing can counteract climate change as effectively as reforestation. Trees absorb CO2 and sequester it as carbon, reducing the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. One tree can offset 10 kilograms of CO2 over the course of a year. But trees can do more than clean the air and produce oxygen. Forests improve soil properties and create important habitat for many different species of animals and plants. And they also serve as places of retreat and recreation for us humans.
