A few days ago Peter Förg, from the Board of Directors of the association HoffnungStern Uganda Freunde e.V., had a very pleasant task. He was able to receive a donation of 5,000 euros from Andreas Müller, Managing Director of the Alois Müller Group. “We want to support the association in its important tasks and therefore do without Christmas presents for our customers and business partners,” emphasized Andreas Müller during the handover and placed the campaign under the motto “donations instead of gifts”.
The donation will benefit the “Hosfa-Vocational-Training-Center” in Mityana, a small town in the west of Uganda. There the young people will be given the opportunity to train as solar technicians. “A qualified training is the only hope for these children and young people to learn a profession in order to escape poverty”, Peter Förg points out. Furthermore, it is planned that in addition to the training, the Ugandan trainees will set up a small production facility where mini-solar lamps will be manufactured.
In large parts of Africa, people live without access to the electricity grid. The available energy sources (e.g. petroleum lamps, wood) are not only harmful to health and the environment and usually difficult to obtain, but also “burn” a large part of the monthly income of the rural population. The initiative has set itself the goal of actively shaping the spread of solar energy in Uganda and thereby creating the greatest possible value on an ecological, economic and social level.
